Blake Biondi scored two goals and assisted on another to lift the No. 3 Hermantown boys' hockey team past Thief River Falls on Friday to snap the Hawks' four-game winless streak.
In their first game against another MSHSL Class A opponent, the Hawks quickly took the lead with goals from Biondi and Brandon Schmidt in the first period.
The second period got off to a sluggish start offensively. Hermantown was held scoreless until Darian Gotz broke the second period seal with a goal in the final minute.
On the following faceoff, the puck bounced to Brady Baker, who drove the length of the ice to score with 0.6 seconds left on the clock to give Hermantown a 4-0 lead. Biondi scored his second goal of the game halfway through the third period to cap off the winning effort.
Overall, Hermantown outshot Thief River Falls 41-10.
The two-time defending MSHSL Class A champs are now (2-3-2) overall and will return to action in the Duluth Marshall tournament against Roseville on December 27.
