UPDATE: BCA: One dead following officer involved shooting in Gilbert

An investigation is underway after a fatal officer-involved shooting in Gilbert Friday afternoon.

According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, a St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputy, as well as a Gilbert police officer, were trying to find a wanted person.

Both officers found a vehicle which they believed was connected to the wanted person on the 100 block of Michigan Avenue West in Gilbert around 1:15.

Authorities say a person left the vehicle and ran from the scene, and the officers followed.

According to the BCA, a chase began, which ended in the north alley of the 100 block of Michigan Avenue West, where authorities say several shots were fired, and one person was killed.

The BCA says they have recovered a handgun at the scene.

The Sheriff's Deputy was taken to Essentia in Duluth with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

The Gilbert Police Officer was not injured, however the officer was hospitalized in Virginia, and was later released.

As of 6 p.m. on Friday, BCA agents were at the scene.

The names of the victims, as well as the officers, will be released after a formal identification,notification of family members, and the first interviews are complete.

The BCA was requested to investigate the incident by the Gilbert Police Department, as well as the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.


UPDATE: The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is on the scene of an alleged shooting in Gilbert.

Authorities were called to Gilbert Friday afternoon just before 1:30 on Friday.

Electronic reports indicate at least one person has been injured, however it is not known how many people were involved, or their condition.

Traffic is being blocked off in the areas of Summit Street, as well as Michigan Avenue East.

According to electronic reports, at least one person has been injured, however that information has not been confirmed.

Electronic reports also report roads and alleys will be blocked off, however it is unknown which areas will be restricted to traffic.
