(KARE) -- Minnetonka police announced late Thursday night they are searching for two people after a man was seen abducting his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint.
Witnesses said 37-year-old Jahon Douglas of Burnsville was seen on Bred Road West near Minneapolis Mart in Minnetonka around 4:00 p.m. Douglas reportedly threatened his ex-girlfriend, 37-year-old Nicole Smith of Anoka, with a gun and forced her into a grey/silver Pontiac Bonneville, MN license plate number 947WWM. The car has a rear spoiler and one burned-out headlight.
Police believe Douglas purchased the vehicle within the last week. They are accessing MnDOT cameras and area video surveillance to learn the couple's whereabouts.
In a briefing with reporters Friday morning Minnetonka Police Sergeant Shelly Petersen said the gun used in the abduction has not yet been recovered, so it is believed Douglas remains armed and dangerous. He should not be approached.
Petersen said that Douglas and Smith have had domestic problems in the past, and both their families and police are worried about their safety.
"Their health and well-being would be our top concern," Sergeant Smith told reporters.
Anyone with information that could help officers locate Douglas or Smith is asked to call Minnetonka Police at (952) 939-8500.
