Advocates of a new passenger rail service between Duluth and the Twin Cities are requesting bonding money in order to get federal help for the project.
The MnDOT-appointed State Passenger Rail Forum is requesting $11 million in bonding dollars from the state legislature.
$6 million of that money would be invested in the Northern Lights Express Project.
If that happens, NLX would be eligible to receive $24 million in federal money, which would help complete the project design engineering.
The project is waiting for final confirmation of its environmental work, which officials say should be completed this month.
