Weather conditions expected to change quickly in Minnesota Monday night

Posted: Updated:
DULUTH, MN -

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says a large system will be moving into the northern part of the state Monday night, and will cause difficult driving conditions.

MnDOT officials say road conditions may deteriorate quickly, and since rain has been falling in many places, highways will freeze.

Freezing rain is expected to be followed by heavy snow and high winds, with near blizzard conditions.

Plowing is already being done in some areas.

Motorists are asked to do the following during the latest storm system:

  • Don't travel unless necessary
  • Be patient on roadways
  • Stay back at least 10 car lengths behind plows, away from the snow cloud
  • Be alert for snowplows that turn or exit frequently, often with little warning
  • Watch for plows traveling over center lines
  • Slow down to a speed safe for current conditions
