Tanner Jaillet continued to be a tough backstop to break on Saturday, allowing just one goal to lift the top-ranked Denver University men's hockey team to a 2-1 win over No. 16 University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) at AMSOIL Arena.
Denver scored with 20 seconds left in the second period to break the scoreless tie. Blake Young scored UMD's lone goal, his second of the season, eight minutes into the third period to tie the game, but Jake Durflinger scored the eventual game-winning goal for the Pioneers with four minutes left in regulation.
Overall, the Bulldogs outshot the Pioneers 28-15. Cohasset, Minn, native Hunter Shepard made 14 saves in the loss, while Jaillet made 27 stops.
Jaillet backstopped the Pioneers to a 1-0 win on Friday night and made 55 saves in two games against the Bulldogs.
UMD falls to (7-8-2) overall and (2-6-0) in NCHC play. The Bulldogs will continue conference play as they travel to face Nebraska-Omaha on Dec. 8-9.
