An Ely woman has returned home after volunteering her time in the Virgin Islands, through the Red Cross.
Debbie Hultman worked with federal disaster workers, Red Cross volunteers, and many others.
Hultman's main duties while in St. Thomas were delivering emergency supplies to the community.
She says she has always wanted to volunteer, and thought with this year's disasters, it was the perfect time to finally do that.
"I reached out to the Duluth chapter, and they helped me get the necessary training done for a deployment, and when one was available, it was for St. Thomas. I was expecting to go to Florida or Texas, so I was surprised by the location," said Hultman.
Hultman says the island is in very bad shape, and rebuilding will take years.
She says about half of the island has electricity.
