Woman who cooks for homeless lands at commercial kitchen

Posted: Updated:

KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) - A Kenosha woman who had been warned by local health officials not to make meals for the homeless in her kitchen at home has a new place to continue her charity work.

Arnetta Griffin had been cooking at home since May when a local homeless shelter shut down and she saw people going through trash cans looking for food.

Gordy Peterson's bar Bourbon Legends is just two blocks from where Griffin serves the homeless. Peterson says he has a pretty big commercial kitchen so he invited Griffin to cook there.

Griffin tells WTMJ-TV that what used to take her all day to make, now takes a fraction of the time because of the commercial equipment. She says tools like a commercial fryer can quickly make chicken. Griffin uses her own money to buy and make food for the homeless.
