Port Wing, Wis. native and Iowa forward Megan Gustafson has been named to the Naismith Trophy watch list, it was announced on Thursday afternoon.
The Naismith Trophy is given each year to the nation's top women's basketball player, and 50 players were named to the initial watch list. That list will be trimmed to 30 in February.
Gustafson is averaging 22.9 points and 12.9 rebounds a game this season for Iowa, helping the Hawkeyes to a (7-1) start. She's best in the nation this year with 79 made field goals, and she's second with seven double-doubles.
She was also named this year to the Katrina McClain watch list, with that award recognizing the nation's top power forward.
