An Ely man is facing five felonies stemming from allegations he sexually assaulted a teenage girl last week.
34-year-old David Alan Nielsen was arrested last Tuesday, just one day after the alleged assault took place. He pleaded not guilty in court last Wednesday to charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree, 2nd Degree Assault, Threats of Violence, and Kidnapping.
Nielsen's next court date is set for December 4th. Bail has been set at $350,000.
According to court records, Nielsen picked up the 15-year-old victim last Monday while she was walking home from school, and told her he would teach her how to drive. Authorities allege Nielsen had known the girl's mother since high school.
Nielsen allegedly drove the teenager to a gravel pit just outside of Ely, and then held a six-inch knife to her throat and told her to be a "good girl." He allegedly made her take her clothes off, and assaulted her five or six times. After the alleged assault, documents say Nielsen burned the condoms in a cigarette pack. The documents go on to say Nielsen threatened to kill the victim if she told anyone. He then allegedly drove her home.
The victim reported the assault to her mother shortly after, and they went to the Ely Hospital. The criminal complaint states that descriptions given by the victim to investigators of Nielsen's car, and the knife used, matched what investigators found after searching Nielsen's car, and a duffel bag.
