After starting the year just (2-6-0), the UW-Superior men's hockey team was in search of something to kick start its 2017-18 season.
With a win this past Saturday night over Twin Ports rival St. Scholastica, they may have found it.
"They're a good team over there. We needed the win desperately," head coach Rich McKenna said. "We've had kind of a slow start, trying to find our game with so many new guys to the program."
It was the first meeting between the schools since 2014, but Twig, Minn. native Ian Ecklund says the emotions were as high as he'd imagined.
"It was big. The last time we played them, I think, was the year before I got here," he said. "I hadn't experienced it yet, but growing up I came to a few of those games and the barn was always packed."
UW-Superior is now (3-6-0) overall this season and will play at Northland on Tuesday before starting the conference schedule this weekend on the road against UW-Stout and UW-Stevens Point.
