KBJR 6 has learned of a report of sexual misconduct at the Duluth Massage Envy, which is one of the more than 180 cases facing the franchise.
In April 2015, Duluth Police responded to a report of criminal sexual conduct at the Massage Envy location along Maple Grove Road.
The report alleges the person giving the massage touched a woman inappropriately without her consent.
According to Saint Louis County Court officials, in January 2016 the County Attorney filed for dismissal of the charges in this case.
We reached out to the Maple Grove location for a statement, but they declined to comment.
However, the franchise has released an official statement regarding the misconduct:
"Each of these incidents are heartbreaking for us and for the franchisees that operate Massage Envy locations. With over 15 years and 125 million massages, even one incident is too many. That's why we will never stop reinforcing to our franchisees the importance of a safe environment. It's why we are constantly listening, learning and looking at how we can do more, including how we support franchised locations with best practices in handling these incidents and supporting their clients."
Massage businesses and masseuses are not regulated by the state of Minnesota, but according to Duluth Police, they are regulated by the city of Duluth.
Duluth PD says if a client of a massage therapist believes he/she has been assaulted, they should contact authorities.
