A long, fierce rivalry was renewed on Saturday as the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) men's hockey team defeated St. Scholastica 2-1 at Wessman Arena in the first meeting between the two teams since 2013.
The game's first goal came from Jake Hamilton, who scored a shorthanded goal nine minutes into the game to hand the Yellowjackets an early lead. Liam Blais then tacked on another goal with three minutes left in the first period.
UWS held a 2-0 lead until St. Scholastica's Parker Mismash netted a power play goal with under three minutes left in regulation. Overall, the Yellowjackets outshot the Saints 30-23. Nick Trenciansky made 30 saves for St. Scholastica, while Cole Skinner made 22 stops for UW-Superior.
The Yellowjackets now lead the all-time series (86-38-9) and improve to (3-5-0) on the season. The Saints fall to (3-4-0).
