KARE 11--Two people have been transported to the hospital after a car ran through a building in downtown Excelsior.
Fire investigators say the two people were employees at Provisions inside The Excelsior Mill building. Investigators characterized their injuries as "traumatic” but not life threatening.
“I think certainly surprised was my first reaction.” Scott Gerber Excelsior Fire District Chief said. “I know the two people, the extent of their injuries anyway but as you can imagine being struck or pinned by a car would be traumatic for anyone.”
There are at least four businesses inside of the Mill Building. Others were able to open back up after the crash.
“It was the scariest thing I had ever seen said ” Debbie Thompson. She was working inside of the store when the crash happened. “It was kind of like slow motion. Why was everything exploding? And I realized it was a car coming through our shop.”
Investigators say the car lodged 60 to 70 feet inside the building. They also say the woman driving was a patron at the store and was parked outside. As she was leaving she mistook the gas pedal for the brake.
Investigators say the woman driving the car was not injured.
