As the official holiday shopping season kicks off, Duluth businesses say they're happy to see so many shoppers keeping it local.
Saturday marked Small Business Saturday and Duluth shop owners say its one of their busiest days of the year.
According to the Greater Downtown Council, the average shopper will spend about one thousand dollars this holiday season and they're hoping some of those dollars stay local.
Duluth business owners say keeping spending within the community helps them develop products big businesses simply can't.
"Every dollar spent here, anywhere from 45 to 68% of that dollar stays within our community. So, it's a much higher percentage, it benefits our community more when we shop small. So, we encourage folks to do that and really seek out unique retailers this holiday season," said Dan Neff at Lake Superior Art & Glass.
Lake Superior Art and Glass is one of dozens of downtown stores offering giveaways and deals for shoppers looking to keep it local.
