Head-on crash hospitalizes Deer River woman with life-threatening injuries

DEER RIVER, MN -

A 68-year-old Deer River woman is suffering from life threatening injuries after a head-on crash Tuesday morning in Itasca County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, authorities were called to Highway 169 near Fayette Road in Greenway Township just after 8 a.m.

Authorities say a west-bound car driven by a 17-year-old boy crossed the center line, and hit an east-bound Dodge Caravan.

The driver of the Caravan, Karyl Hawes, was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.

Her condition is unknown at this time. 

Her 71-year-old passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The condition of the Impala's driver is unknown at this time. 

Authorities say road conditions were wet at the time of the crash.
