NASA captures Aurora Borealis on Jupiter

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of millions of miles across space, NASA captured Aurora Borealis on Jupiter, and they are dramatically different than ones on Earth.

Using X-ray observations, researchers built maps showing X-ray hot spots at Jupiter's North and South Poles.

At the planet's South Pole, the X-rays pulsated at consistent intervals, but at the north pole, the emissions flared erratically, fluctuating in brightness.

The Aurora Borealises are also much larger on Jupiter, with each one measuring about half the size of Earth.
