More than 800 bouquets were given out Wednesday afternoon as part of a "petal it forward" movement, using flowers to spread happiness.
"Make somebody's day happy," said one of the volunteers.
Engwall Florist and Gifts in Hermantown donated $7,500 worth of flowers that were handed out in front of both St. Luke's and St. Mary's hospitals.
Each person received two bouquets: one to keep and one to give to a coworker, loved one or stranger to brighten their week.
The president of the flower shop, Rod Saline, says they enjoy seeing the impact flowers have, one smile at a time.
"We do this every day. Our little green trucks are out delivering smiles every day," said Saline. "We get a chance today to really magnify that and give away 800 bouquets and create smiles on 800 faces."
Eighty-eight percent of Americans feel happy to give flowers and 80 percent feel happy to receive flowers according to research.
