DULUTH, MN -

University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) senior goaltender Jessica Convery has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) defensive player of the week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Convery, a transfer student from Mercyhurst, posted back-to-back shutouts this past weekend in her first-ever games for the Bulldogs. She made 22 saves Friday and then 12 Saturday to help UMD to a season-opening sweep of Penn State.

She was the only WCHA goaltender to play every minute on opening weekend without surrendering a goal.
