After back-to-back shutouts, UMD women up to No. 4 in USCHO poll

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women's hockey team moved up one spot to No. 4 in this week's United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) Division I poll, which was released on Monday morning.

The Bulldogs opened the 2017-18 season this past weekend, posting back-to-back shutouts over Penn State.

"I enjoyed myself out there," senior goaltender Jessica Convery said. "Those were both good team wins."

Convery made 34 saves on the weekend, including only 12 on Saturday, to earn both shutouts. She says the next test, a road series this week against No. 3 Boston College, will be even more fun.

"Pressure's good. It's fun. It's a little nerve-racking, but it's fun," she said. "It's going to be a good weekend, tough games, hoping to come out with a good result."

Jalyn Elmes, a sophomore defenseman, scored two goals on opening weekend, but she too is already looking forward to the Eagles.

"Both games will be really close," she said. "It'll be neck and neck, definitely a dogfight out there this weekend. I like the competitiveness, so it's awesome."

UMD and Boston College are scheduled for a Thursday-Friday series in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
