The Ashland County Sheriff's Office says a missing 39-year-old Odanah man was found dead Thursday afternoon.
Ashland County Sheriff Michael Brennan says at 4 Thursday afternoon, Bad River Housing Authority found a body, which was later identified as Shane Cadotte, on Bear Trap road in Sanborn Township near one of their properties outside a trailer.
"Deputies investigated and processed the crime scene. The body was taken to Madison today for a forensic autopsy and it positively identified as the missing person," said Sheriff Brennan.
Authorities say they are now investigating the death as a homicide and are in the process of interviewing possible suspects.
"We have nobody in custody at this time but we have several leads we are working on," said Sheriff Brennan.
The next steps for the Ashland County Sheriff's office are to secure search warrants, process the property they have seized and continue the interviewing process.
"This is a small community this is a tragic thing that happened here,' said Sheriff Brennan.
Ashland County Sheriff, Mick Brennan says Cadotte was a Bad River Band member.
"Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Shane and we hope that we can have the resolution very soon," said Sheriff Brennan.
The incident is still under investigation.
