A controversial sign delayed the game between the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics Wednesday night.
During the fourth inning, four fans unfurled a sign over the Green Monster at Fenway Park that read "Racism is as American as baseball."
Major League Umpire Joe West and Boston Police discussed the situation on the field as Fenway Park officials removed the sign.
The fans responsible were escorted from the game.
A Red Sox spokesman said one of the them said they were inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement.
Here is the statement from the Red Sox organization:
"During the 4th inning of tonight's game, four fans unfurled a banner over the left field wall in violation of the club's policy prohibiting signs of any kind to be hung or affixed to the ballpark. The individuals involved were escorted out of Fenway Park."
This is not the first time Fenway Park and racism have been in the news.
Back in May, Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones said he was bombarded with the "n-word" and other racist taunts during a game.
