A temporary shelter for animals in Washburn County, who are looking for a forever home, is officially open.
The Washburn County Area Humane Society opened its doors Monday at a temporary location in Spooner, and spokespeople say they had already adopted two dogs, and a handful of cats by Monday afternoon.
Investigators blame a plastic cigarette butt receptacle for the fire that destroyed the original shelter back in March.
Officials say the shelter will be open on Mondays from noon to four.
If all goes well, officials are hoping to break ground on a new, permanent shelter before winter.
