MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - James Harden gave Houston quite the jump-start with 22 of the team's 50 points in the third quarter, as the Rockets cruised past the Minnesota Timberwolves 119-100 for a 3-1 lead in their first-round playoff series. Chris Paul scored 15 of his 25 points in the near-record third for the Rockets, who turned a 50-49 halftime edge into a 31-point advantage after the torrid 12-minute span. The NBA playoff record for points in a quarter is 51, by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1962.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota Wild have split with longtime general manager Chuck Fletcher after the team's first-round playoff exit. Wild owner Craig Leipold says the team will not renew Fletcher's contract. Fletcher was the Wild's general manager for nine seasons. The Wild made six straight appearances in the playoffs but were ousted in five games by Winnipeg this year.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - New Minnesota women's basketball coach Lindsay Whalen has hired former teammate Kelly Roysland as an assistant. Roysland and Carly Thibault-DuDonis will both join Whalen's staff this season with the Gophers. Roysland is a native of Fosston, Minnesota. She was a freshman in 2004 when Whalen was a senior and the Gophers reached the NCAA Final Four.
