Duluth run helps bring awareness to signs of depression

Posted: Updated:

The Suicide Awareness Voices of Education, or SAVE, hosted the Emotions in Motion 5K Run and Walk Saturday morning.

Dozens of people gathered along Duluth's Lakewalk for the event.

Along with the run, there was also a raffle, music and tables filled with different programs and resources for those battling depression.

One of the event's organizers has a personal connection to the cause.

"I lost my father five and a half years ago," Alyssa Johnsen, organizer of the run, said. "It's amazing the support that's here and all the people and you meet. There are so many other people who are going through similar situations and have lost loved ones as well, and it helps them cope."

If you or someone you know may be depressed or considering suicide, there are many resources available.

You can call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255. You can also click here for more online resources.
