The Minnesota Department of Health wants over $288,000 to help with a syphilis outbreak that started in Mille Lacs County, and has spread to several others.
The money from the Legislative Advisory Commission would be for the 2018 fiscal year.
State health experts say the outbreak is concentrated in the American Indian community, and is related to drug abuse.
There have been 42 reported cases so far this year.
Health officials say there is concern the outbreak could spread to the northeastern part of the state.
The Department is also requesting over $100,000 for the largest measles outbreak in the state in 30 years, and over $224,000 for a tuberculosis outbreak.
