UPDATE: Missing boater found safe, he sought shelter in island cabin overnight

A boater who was reported missing in the Lake Vermilion area has been found safe and in good health. 

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, 66-year old Frank Achter was a guest at Vermilion Dam Lodge. 

Staff there say he left the resort in a resort-owned rental boat at about 8:30 Sunday morning, prompting them to call authorities when he did not return. 

Authorities say he had experienced boat troubles, and was able to make it to an island where he sought shelter in a cabin.

His boat was discovered by the St. Louis County Rescue Squad. 

He was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure after being located Monday morning.

Authorities are searching for a missing boater after he was overdue to return from an outing on the lake.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, the 66-year old male is a guest at Vermilion Dam Lodge. Staff there say he left the resort in a resort-owned rental boat at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday and had not returned.

Authorities began their search late Sunday night and are still searching as of Monday morning.

Authorities say the boat is a grey Vermilion Dam Lodge boat, 17 feet long and a 50 horsepower tiller motor with a distinct lodge identification wrap covering the boat.

If anyone sees or has information about the man or boat they are urged to call 911.
