Grandma's Weekend has officially arrived and with that a lot of events are planned for today and tomorrow.
The first race is the William A. Irvin 5K. The course is to start and end near the William A. Irvin Ship. The course will flow from over by the deck, onto Railroad street, then to the Lakewalk and Canal Park, and back to the William A. Irvin.
The race will begin approximately at 6 p.m. and some of the fastest runners will be done in just 15 minutes.
While the race is going on there will be delayed traffic coming into the Downtown Duluth/Canal Park area. Even before the race, Duluth Police say parking downtown and Canal Park will be limited.
There are still some last minutes touches that the Grandma's Marathon Crew needs to put up so after noon today Canal Park Drive and Railroad Street will be closed. There are a couple other events in Canal Park other than the 5k.
"...and then lead into the big top, Rock the Big Top Entertainment with Everclear and Vertical Horizon; guest speakers, Kara Goucher is coming back, then we also have the William A. Irvin 5k, and then move into race day," said Public Relations Director, Kate Kucinski.
The next race is the Grandma's Half Marathon starting around 6:15 a.m. Saturday.
To get Friday started off, the spaghetti feed will open today at 11 a.m. Motorists should expect the area around the DECC to be busy.
