SUPERIOR, WI -

June 14th is Flag Day, a day commemorating the adoption of the flag of the U.S. that happened in 1777.
But in Superior, they added to the celebration.

Coinciding with Flag Day, Superior Mayor Jim Paine also proclaimed today "Tank Day."
The proclamation was made in honor of the M60A3 tank now located at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center.
A special flag raising and "Tank You" presentation was part of the ceremonies.
Officials involved with the event say it's a great addition to Superior.

"We thought it would be a great addition, you know, not only because it would be another piece of army or military equipment that will enhance the Bong, but because we felt it was just a cool thing to have and I think it's going to really affect tourism," said Julie Demgen.

American Legion Post 435 serves as a trustee.
