Politicians are sounding off on social media following a shooting in Alexandria, Virginia that injured Majority Whip Steve Scalise and four others.
A gunman fired shots at a Congressional baseball practice, injuring Scalise and four others early Wednesday morning.
Scalise was shot in the hip, and underwent surgery on Wednesday.
After the surgery, he was listed in critical condition.
DFL Chair Ken Martin released a statement following the shooting:
"My thoughts and prayers are with Representative Steve Scalise, his staff, and all affected by the horrific shooting this morning. I am grateful for bravery of the Capitol Police officers who put themselves in danger to save the lives of others. My heart is in washington today as those at the Capitol put aside politics and come together to support the victims of this atrocious attack."
Other politicians, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Senator Amy Klobuchar, Representative Rick Nolan and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, sounded off on social media:
