UPDATE: 6/16/17

Charges have been filed against a 43-year-old woman who allegedly caused a gas leak when she crashed her SUV into a Hermantown townhome.

The driver is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and fourth degree driving while impaired.

According to Hermantown police, crews responded to the Deer Field Townhome complex at the end of last month.

When they arrived, they discovered the broken gas line and began evacuating the townhomes.

The gas company shutdown service to that particular broken line.

The gas was restored shortly after the incident.

The driver is expected to be arraigned in July.

A 43-year old woman, who police say was driving under the influence, caused a gas leak when she crashed her SUV into a Hermantown townhome.

According to Hermantown police, crews responded to the Deer Field Townhome complex around 6:21 p.m. Wednesday.

When they arrived, they discovered the broken gas line and began evacuating the townhomes. They also requested that the gas company shutdown service to that particular broken line.

Authorities say turning off service to the gas line took longer than expected because the SUV was on top of the area they needed to access in order to shutdown the gas line.

The driver was arrested for DUI. No one was injured.
