Duluth Mayor continues lobbying for bonding dollars in St. Paul

DULUTH, MN -

With less than two weeks until the end of the Minnesota legislative session, there's some doubt a bonding bill will make it through.

The bill provides state money for capital improvement projects across Minnesota.

Duluth is requesting funding for Steam Plant Upgrades and UMD is asking for state dollars to get a new chemical science building, both of which are not in the GOP House proposal.

Mayor Emily Larson has spent time in St. Paul in recent weeks lobbying lawmakers to get the help the city needs.

"I do think it makes a difference if you're in the room and you're looking someone in the eye and you're telling the story of your community and our needs over and over again. And you show up at the their door, and keep showing up, it makes a difference," said Mayor Larson.

Mayor Larson plans to head back to St. Paul next week.

The 2017 legislative session wraps up May 22.
