Lyanne Valdez officially joined the KBJR 6 team January 2017 as a reporter after interning for the station during the summer of 2016.
Lyanne is from Laredo, Texas but grew up in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, and is a native Spanish speaker. She knew she had an interest in video and TV when she received her first camcorder at the age of seven.
In high-school, she got involved with a multimedia class where she would shoot, edit, anchor the weekday news. Lyanne graduated with honors from St. Cloud State University. While at St. Cloud State she was involved with their student run TV program; UTVS. She anchored Monday nights and was the News Director. Lyanne also anchored in the first, ever Spanish newscast in Minnesota; UTVS News en Espanol. Even though Lyanne dabbled in radio while studying abroad in England she always knew her heart belonged to TV.
Two of Lyanne’s favorite journalists are Jorge Ramos and Sara Sidner. She admires their hard work ethic, storytelling ability, compassion, toughness. Lyanne grew up watching Jorge Ramos on her TV screen in Texas.
Lyanne is very excited to soak up as much knowledge as she can. She hopes to fulfill her duty as a journalist and inform the public as best as she can while remain objective. She aspires to one day become a foreign correspondent, or report down south by the Mexico border.
In her free time, she loves to keep up with current events, read, exercise, nap, eat!
