Jennifer Austin thought she wanted to be a librarian.
So as part of an elementary school career exploration project, she interviewed her local librarian about her job. It would be more than a decade later that Jennifer’s interest in stories and interviewing would meld into her job as a journalist.
Jennifer anchors the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. news on KBJR 6. She’s been at the station since 2012, when she landed her first job after college, reporting from KBJR’s Iron Range bureau in Hibbing.
Jennifer is a Minnesota girl, born and raised in the Twin Cities. She is a St. Cloud State graduate.
In her free time, Jennifer loves spending time with her husband, Billy, and their dog, Trixie.
Jennifer is a big animal lover. While she loves both dogs and cats equally, you won’t find her adopting a cat, because her husband is allergic (she’s skeptical).
Jennifer’s other interests include clearance shopping, spending time by the lake, enjoying a locally brewed beer, and Harry Potter (her favorite books, introduced to her by aforementioned librarian).
