MADISON, Wis. (AP) - President Donald Trump has nominated an assistant U.S. attorney to serve as the new chief federal prosecutor in Milwaukee. Trump announced Friday he has chosen Matthew Krueger to serve as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Krueger has worked in the U.S. attorney's office since 2013.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security says Wisconsin's voter registration system was unsuccessfully targeted by Russian hackers. Wisconsin was one of 21 states notified Friday of the attempted hacking. Wisconsin Elections Commission administrator Michael Haas says the attempted hack had no effect on Wisconsin's systems or the outcome of the election.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Democratic state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout plans to announce she is running for governor on Monday. An email sent from one of her supporters urging attendance at her campaign kickoff event in Black River Falls spilled the news Friday. Vinehout joins six other declared Democratic candidates who are vying for a chance to take on Republican Gov. Scott Walker in next year's election. Walker is expected to formally jump into the race in early November.

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) - An Appleton man has been charged with killing the woman he was living with and pointing his gun at her son. Bail was set at $750,000 Friday for 58-year-old Johnnie Scott. He's charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of 48-year-old Annie Ford on Thursday and recklessly endangerment for allegedly pointing the gun at her 15-year-old son. Prosecutors say the shooting followed an argument about $800 and a television.
