BEULAH, Mich. (AP) - Authorities in northern Michigan believe they've found the body of a kayaker who went missing nearly two years ago. Volunteers with high-tech equipment discovered a body Thursday in deep water in Lake Michigan's Platte Bay. Benzie County Sheriff Ted Schendel tells MLive.com "they're the heroes." In 2016, Tyler Spink of Kalkaska was paddling with a friend on Labor Day when their kayaks capsized. They had started at the mouth of the Platte River in Benzie County.
MILWAUKEE (AP) - Milwaukee officials are inviting Jay-Z to bring his Made In America music festival to the city next year because Philadelphia no longer wants the event at the location it's been held since 2012. Alderman Khalif Rainey says in a letter to Jay-Z's company, Roc Nation, that Milwaukee is known as a city of festivals because it hosts dozens of events annually, including Summerfest. The letter Thursday is signed by four or Rainey's Common Council colleagues.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Scott Walker has asked President Donald Trump's administration to issue a federal disaster declaration for six northwestern Wisconsin counties that saw flood damage in June. Heavy rains fell across northwestern Wisconsin beginning June 16, washing out many roads and culverts.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Former longtime state Senate President Mike Ellis, a legend in Wisconsin politics known for his tinted glasses, bad toupee and encyclopedic knowledge of the state budget, died Friday. Ellis' brother Mark Ellis said he appears to have died in his sleep at home in Neenah. He was 77. Ellis was a true character, short in height but oversized in personality, who served 44 years in the Legislature starting in 1970.
