MILWAUKEE (AP) - Harley-Davidson, facing rising costs from new tariffs, will begin shifting the production of motorcycles heading for Europe from the U.S. to factories overseas. The famed motorcycle maker said in a regulatory filing Monday that European Union tariffs on its motorcycles exported from the U.S. jumped from 6 percent to 31 percent. Harley-Davidson Inc. said that it will not raise its prices due to "an immediate and lasting detrimental impact to its business in the region."
WASHINGTON (AP) - The attorney representing an inmate featured in the "Making a Murderer" series is vowing to keep fighting for him after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to take his case. Brendan Dassey's attorneys contend investigators coerced him into falsely confessing that he helped his uncle, Steven Avery, rape and kill photographer Teresa Halbach in 2005. The Supreme Court on Monday decided not to review the case, leaving Dassey in prison.
JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) - House Speaker Paul Ryan and Wisconsin Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner are endorsing state Sen. Leah Vukmir in the August Republican primary for Democrat Tammy Baldwin's U.S. Senate seat. Vukmir faces political newcomer Kevin Nicholson. Ryan says Vukmir is a conservative ally who's committed to challenging the status quo. A Wisconsin Democratic Party spokesman says Ryan "embodies the worst of Washington's corporate special interest corruption, so it's no surprise that he wants Leah Vukmir elected."
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Scott Walker says any additional sales tax the state collects from online sales will be offset with other tax cuts. Walker commented Monday after the U.S. Supreme Court last week said states can collect sales taxes on internet sales where online retailers are based in other states. That could bring in as much as $187 million more per-year to the state. But Walker says "one way or the other we'd want to get that back to the hardworking taxpayers."
