MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Police in Minneapolis say officers shot and killed a man who was firing a handgun as he walked down a city street. The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Saturday on the north side of Minneapolis. Authorities say two calls to 911 reported that a man was firing a handgun into the air and the ground. When officers arrived, they pursued a suspect on foot and the chase "ended in shots being fired."

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan says she's been the target of racist and sexist attacks from fellow Republicans. Carnahan was born in South Korean and adopted by people from Minnesota. The Star Tribune reports that Carnahan posted on her Facebook page that some GOP leaders around the state have called her "a stupid Asian not even born in America" and used other racial slurs. She would not identify who attacked her.

PETALUMA, Calif. (AP) - A 9-year-old English bulldog was named the winner of the 2018 World's Ugliest Dog contest in the San Francisco Bay Area. Zsa Zsa won the title Saturday in the competition where dogs with hairless bodies and lolling tongues flaunt their imperfections. The dogs walk down a red carpet and are evaluated by a panel of judges. The winner takes home $1,500. Zsa Zsa's owner is Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A Minnesota county sheriff who resigned unexpectedly last month is accused of threatening a female employee in the sheriff's office. The Star Tribune reports that an investigation ordered by a Chisago County Attorney's Office shows that Rick Duncan wrote threatening letters last fall directing the employee to go with him to a training session in Bemidji and stay overnight at a hotel together or risk harm to their families.
